Addressing A Need
This website is funded through a generous grant from the
Martin and Mary L. Boyer Foundation.
Komen Chicago and Triage Cancer teamed up to create this website to address an unmet need. The Institute of Medicine (IOM) issued a report “Cancer Care for the Whole Patient: Meeting Psychosocial Health Needs” warning that failing to address employment, health insurance, and financial concerns may threaten a patient’s return to optimum health. This is especially relevant when discussing the needs of the young adult, low income, minority, and uninsured or underinsured populations.
The goal of this site is to guide people through the questions and concerns we hear on a daily basis and provide them with targeted answers and resources. We hope that this site will impact the Chicago area breast cancer community by:
Helping to reduce mortality disparity and ensure a seamless Continuum of Care for all patients
Creating uniform central location for breast cancer & support resources
Providing a resource for Patient/Community Navigators
Acting as a resource to continuously enhance delivery of programs and align with recommendations from Commission on Cancer and other industry standards
